Callie Spencer – only daughter of Richard and Lorraine Spencer - was born in Opp, Alabama, at a time when her town was experiencing a growth of business and prosperity. Her family was very popular and easily identified with the steel industry as they ran their family business, a rapidly growing steel mill their grandfather had started in 2004. Callie, though, didn’t enjoy this kind of life and wanted something different. She wasn’t sure where she belonged, until Career Day at Opp Elementary School. She met someone who worked with the environment and engineering at the same time. She was so intrigued by that she made it her career choice. Her family supported her every step of the way, saying it was important for her to follow her own dreams, even if it meant not entering the family business like her younger brothers, Brian and Joseph.

She worked hard in high school and college, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Alabama – to which she is still very loyal - and graduating Magna Cum Laude from MIT in with a Master's in Bioengineering. She completed astronaut training at the World Space Agency, which gave her the opportunity to work at the International Space Station when needed. Her position as an environmental engineer and a Hazardous Materials specialist for the WSA allowed her to serve at WSA bases in the U.S., and also Russia, and Brazil, where she learned Russian and Portuguese.

Callie tends to be shy, but when no one wants to say anything, she isn't afraid to speak up. She is open minded and open hearted. Never a goof off, she totally dedicated to the job., and 100% serious. She studied Tae Kwon Do, attaining a brown belt until a knee injury forced her to quit martial art training. She suffers from herpetophobia, and whenever she sees a tornado on television, it makes her slightly nervous because she is reminded of a powerful tornado that levelled much of Opp when she was a child. She had a failed romance in college, one which made her leery of pursuing another romantic relationship.

Her entry into life with International Rescue began when one of the WSA Space Cruisers had a problem, and the Thunderbirds were called in to help it land. She discovered some strange chemical compounds that created a superfertilizer in the plant life surrounding Cape Canaveral, and feared the environment could be affected. IR, though its agents, stymied her work for a time until Brains and Tin-Tin could complete their own investigation. Upon informing her of their findings, they offered her a position as a chemical engineer and an astronaut/space monitor.
