Gordon Cooper Tracy

Unlike his other brothers who are either pilots and/or astronauts, Gordon Tracy is an aquanaut who sails the seas much as his other brothers sail in the air or outer space. As International Rescue's only aquanaut, he pilots the most advanced one-man submarine in the world, and the smallest of the Thunderbird craft, Thunderbird 4. He went from high school into the World Aquanaut Security Patrol and served both with that organization and the Submarine Service. As an accomplished oceanographer, Gordon spent a year living beneath the oceans, commanding a deep-sea bathyscaphe and investigating marine farming methods. Gordon holds the patent on a unique underwater breathing apparatus, one that he has modified for International Rescue's use. He is also IR's premier scuba and deep sea diver.

As a teenager, he won an Olympic gold medal for both the freestyle and the butterfly strokes. Even now he is considered one of the world's fastest freestyle swimmers. But shortly before International Rescue became a reality, Gordon's hydrofoil capsized at high speed and he was badly injured, requiring four months in a hospital bed.

Gordon is a joker and a prankster, good natured, with a wicked sense of humor. He is often looked askance at by the rest of the family as a result of his inventive practical jokes. He enjoys all water sports; swimming, sailing, diving, surfing, scuba, and water skiing. His hair in an unusual coppery-red color that sets him apart from his dark-haired and blond brothers. Gordon has the reputation for being a hearty eater both at the table and away. He and Alan are close, both in age and in brotherly bonds, and often Alan will pull off a prank that Gordon has instigated. Gordon is currently without a love interest, though he has often played the field and enjoys a lady with as much humor in her as he himself has.
