Born into a Catholic family in Kent, Nikki is the youngest daughter of a Spanish father, Marcos, and a Jamaican mother, Sandra, both of whom lived in England from childhood. She has two older siblings, a set of twins, and a younger brother. Her older brother is married and has two children, while her sister has a child with her boyfriend. Her younger brother is unmarried.

She moved with her family to London while in primary school, and though shy at first, quickly began making friends. Her first and best friend is Emma Taylor, with whom she attended both Primary and Secondary school. When she was 16, Nikki's parents divorced.

While growing up, Nikki used to sometimes visit her grandfather at his Doctor’s surgery. Much to her chagrin, she was not allowed in his office when he had patients, due to confidentiality. In later years, she began to understand clearly about patients' privacy, or as she used to call it, “secrets” between doctor and patient.

Because of the amount of time Nikki spent at the surgery, her family thought that she would become a doctor ,too. After much thinking, talking and debating, Nikki felt that she didn’t want to become a doctor…just yet, although she did want to work in the medical profession. On her mother's recommendation, Nikki trained to be a hospital nurse, taking courses at the University of Central Lancashire. On graduation, she worked as a A&E nurse at Queen Charlotte's and Chelsea Hospital.

Despite her father's teachings, Nikki never learned to speak Spanish fluently. Nikki also felt that her father was the reason why she is the person she is today. She wanted to show him that she could have a normal happy life without her parents being married and living under the same roof.

Nikki is easy-going, and can be talkative once she gets to know a person. Generally, she is kind and helpful, but she's not afraid to say what’s on her mind, and can be sarcastic sometimes. She's both musically and athletically inclined. She loves to play basketball, netball and soccer. Nikki plays both piano and violin. She is often found listening to music on her personal player and enjoys singing along.
