I thought we might have a need for this thread so we could discuss the mundane little details of life on Tracy Island.

Whichever little detail you're responding to, make sure the title line is changed appropriately.

Here's our first detail.

It's been brought to the mods' attention that, as writers, we keep flipflopping between using the metric or the English system. Now, this isn't necessarily a problem for our player characters - they would use whatever their player uses. But it would be nice if the canon characters used one or the other consistently and it might be good for all the characters to be on the same page.

We're not about to go back and retcon the whole thing, but consistency from here on out is a good idea. So, cast your vote and tell us which way we should go. Explanations are welcome, too.

Second detail (thanks, Lauren!) is: who launders the uniforms? Are they machine washable (being Penelar and all)? I know I had Dianne take off a set of scrubs and put them in a hamper for "recycling" in an early post. Should the scrubs be dealt with differently? How about lab coats?

So, how do we want to approach this? Let's get some ideas and decide.

Here's a third detail: what happens to uniforms that are left behind when a character leaves? Do they get recycled? What do you think?

I agree that they must be recyled somehow. They couldn't be just thrown away, for one thing, it's too expensive, and darn near indestructable! So is there a way the material can be broken down and redyed and woven into a new uniform?

Either the fabric resists dirt, perspiration and stains very well, or there is some kind of laundry method that will work on all fabrics, even Penelar.

What about a sonic laundry system? It would sure solve the water usage problem aboard Thunderbird Five. Brains or Tin-Tin might have experimented with sonics and found a frequency or two that would clean the fabric without damaging it in any way. And perhaps other frequencies that would work on regular fabrics as well.

I think the sonic laundry system is a really good idea, Liz.

It's been suggested that there be a spur of the monorail that takes people to the Round House. My main objection to that is: how do people get from the monorail (underground) to the Round House itself?

Why is this a problem? The Round House sits several meters off the ground, and is held there by two support pylons, neither of which is thick enough to hold an elevator shaft.

Here's what I mean:
index.php?t=getfile&id=6&private=0

BTW, this picture shows the Round House as having one story - there are other pictures that show it as having two.

So, building a monorail spur isn't terribly feasible in the case of the Round House.

This may have been discussed at some point and I missed it, but exactly what does the lounge in the cliff house look like? What things are in it? I know couch and lamps have been mentioned in posts and now there are the mailboxes but what else?

I've been doing a bit of research on India while working on my novel, and I see that several of the cities, such as Bombay and Calcutta, are going by more ethnic names (Mumbai and Kolkata). Perhaps it would be good for us to double check many of the other cities on the list of Tracy Ind. sites and see if they are being called by more ethnic names.

Add them to the list here, or in the cities list if you find them, and I'll edit the original post (or one of the other mods could do so).

Probably not much more than what you've mentioned, except possibly a wide screen TV. Most people would use their own living rooms to entertain, but the lounge is there if you don't want to go back up to your apartment while the laundry runs...
