Here is the outline of the avalanche rescue. If you see an item for which you'd like to write a post, please notify everyone here. Also, some spots will take more than one post, so let us know what you'll have whomever doing.

Avalanche rescue

Location: Blafjoll Ski Resort (30 minutes from Reykjavik)

Local time: 8:30 PM

Tracy Island time: 9:30 AM

Reason for IR to be called: The World Government says they have "reason to believe that upper echelon members of an organization that does sabotage work. Some of its members sabotaged the jet carrying the pandas from Beijing to Santiago. They order the member nations to stand down until they can get agents to the area, in order to take the organization's officers into custody. The resort manager calls IR, who answers the call.

People known (by us) to be at the resort: upper echelon members (3-6, I suggest) of an organization that specializes in attempts to cause international incidents. Some of its members - but not these people - sabotaged the jet from Beijing to Santiago; Jacques Hightower (pick a reason - maybe to get away from his brother and sister?); the manager of the resort; resort employees; others (TBD)

Personnel: Scott, Virgil, Alan, Gordon, Elise, Dom, Nikki, Dianne, Callie, Cassie, & Brains

Equipment: TB1, TB2, TB7, The Mole, The Excavator, hoverbikes, hand shovels, the Firefly, the laser truck, floodlights

Posts:

1: The avalanche occurs at 8:00 PM. It has covered the building where people are housed. The manager calls for local rescue. About 30 minutes later, he is contacted and told they wouldn't be coming for some time, and why.

2: The manager calls IR. He tells them what's happened, and why local rescue isn't coming. He's sure the oxygen supply will be gone by then.

3: John contacts Base and informs them of the call. Jeff makes a decision and tells the recruits who is going, and what to take, first sending Scott off in TB1. Fifteen minutes later, TB2 is able to take off. (So at 9:30 AM, TI time, IR gets the call. Fifteen minutes later, Scott is on the way in TB1. He arrives 50 minutes later at about 9:35 PM, local time. TB2 takes off fifteen minutes after TB1 (10 AM TI time) and arrives around 11:20 PM, local time)

4: On the way, Scott gets contacted by an agent of the WG, telling them to return to their base. Scott ignores the "order", telling the agent what he thinks of it, they have words, and TB1 continues.

5: Scott finds a place for both TBs to land, and makes an assessment. John is able to send him arial pics of the resort, so they know what buildings are where. When TB2 arrives, personnel are assigned to equipment (TBD) and the rescue begins. First on the agenda would be to place the floodlights. Then personnel would go to their assigned equipment/vehicles.

6-whatever: Posts of the rescue, using the different equipment and from different POVs. (possibly the WG agents arriving shortly after IR gets into the building(s) and taking into custody the people they "believe are part of the organization" and also possibly Jacques Hightower [whom - it was suggested - is there, and whom they think is one of those members.].)

Last: Wrap up . As they are packing up to leave, another call comes in.

Scott: TB1

Virgil & Elise: TB2/Mole

Dianne, Dom, Nikki: TB7 (one or more may leave to do triage)

Alan & Cassie: Firefly (Cassie will help with triage)

Brains: Laser Truck

Callie & Gordon: Excavator

Once the larger vehicles are no longer needed, they would put them back in the pod, and grab shovels or hoverbikes, to help dig or search. Once they reach the victims, most of them would help transport them to TB7 or warmer areas.

I would like to take care of item number 4. I have some ideas on how the conversation might go.

I'd like to take on item 2. I can just see the manager's panic and frustration and his desperate call to IR (with anxious inquiries as to whether IR is connected to the World Government)

Do you mind if I start things off, picking up number 1?

I have some thoughts and ideas for number 3. The part where Jeff preps the team, so if someone wants to tackle the initial call to John, go for it.

And if anyone writes Luke and Rommel, please remember Rom is not an avalanche dog. He's a search and rescue dog. There's a big difference. He might find some people who aren't deep, but that's not what he's been trained to do.

Okay, the first five posts are spoken for. It'll go as follows:

Post 1: Dianne/Tikatu

Post 2: Sarah/scuppy

Post 3: Lauren/lillehafrue

Post 4: Liz/hobbeth

Post 5: Rain/ArtisticRainey

Everyone can write posts about the rescue itself. So put your thinking caps on. We'll decide about the wrap-up/next rescue post later.

Actually, Robin wants to write the first part - the call coming in. And Lynn expressed an interest in writing the rest, but possibly needing help with any of the technical parts.

Good. Glad to know we have it covered.

That link Susan gave me had an interesting bit of tech in it: the avalanche beeper. I think this is something we could incorporate into our scenario.

Okay. Links to the Bláfjöll ski resort for easy reference:

http://www.skidasvaedi.is/desktopdefault.aspx - the home page with some cool photos, especially of the night skiing.

http://www.skidasvaedi.is.../3/Resources/skjol/Blafj allayfirlit.jpg - the map to the resort. The TBs are parked at the foot of the Jon Oddur and Jon Bjarni runs, as per Lynn's post.

If anyone needs an idea for a post, poor Brains has been in the Laser Truck all this time and no one's heard from him.

Please remember that the World Government agents will arrive prior to anyone in the lodge leaving it. Also, Sarah and I have a post that will take place on Tracy Island just as the second rescue call comes in.
