Biography
This character was born and raised in Mt. Holly, a small town in Vermont. She was diagnosed early in life with ADHD, but her mother disagreed with the diagnosis and refused to medicate her, preferring instead to use other methods--including natural supplements--to help her daughter cope with her energy and lack of focus. She also removed her from the public school system and began to homeschool her. She was partially successful; he daughter learned to focus on a task, to almost the exclusion of all else, but when not working, she still had a surplus of nervous energy to be dealt with. This was channeled into sports, dance, and music. Homeschooling went well, and she passed the high school exit exams as well as her college entrance tests with high scores. This enabled her to apply for scholarships that would cover her college tuition.
Her mother's increasing insistence on using only natural methods began to wear on her father, who was more laid back and traditional. Finally, an affair on her mother's part caused him to leave when the candidate was 12. She never learned of her mother's infidelity, and never forgave her father for what she believed was a betrayal. They are estranged to this day. A maternal aunt and uncle helped them out, and recommended her for a job at Gazelle Automation when she graduated from college.
Entry to the story
Tired of life in the city, she sees the advertisement online and figures it would be an opportunity to get out to the country, so she applies. Working for Jeff's old friend gives her an edge over the competition.
